Life, kids, pets and other intersting stuff

Homework

I can’t believe the amount of homework my six year old son (Grade 1) seems to get. Every fortnight he brings a “Learning @ Home” book home with a matrix of six activities to be completed over the next week and a half. Two of the activities are marked as compulsory, the rest are optional but most of his class seems to do at least four of the six activities.

We spend hours every week on his “Learning at Home” plus he has a reader to do every second night. He is on Level 26 for reading so is up to chapter books.

While I love his wonderful enquiring mind and the time we spend reading and doing homework together I find it really cuts into playtime and family time.

We worry about work/life balance for ourselves but are we putting too much pressure on our kids on such a young age?
